An expert system of Artificial Intelligence is a computer system that has the decision-making skills of human experts. These systems are intended to provide solutions for complex problems by calculation about facts, represented mainly as if–then rules instead of conventional methods. Understanding expert systems is an essential part of the Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) curriculum, as it helps students build a strong foundation in Artificial Intelligence, knowledge-based systems, and intelligent decision-making technologies used in modern software applications.
Capabilities of the Expert Systems
An Expert system should be able to capture the expertise, coding of them. It should be able functions as experts, transferring their results. It should save human efforts, and also save the maintenance cost. It should be capable of updating knowledge on day to day basis.
Characteristics of the Expert Systems
An expert system must be intelligent enough to explain and reasoning to display the intelligent behavior of experts. It should be capable of concluding from various relationships which are complex.
Expert system should give portable information and capable to deal with certainity.

An expert system is typically composed of at least three primary components:
- Knowledge Base
- Interface Engine
- User Interface
Limitation of Expert Systems
Expert Systems are difficult to maintain. It is very much difficult to maintain up to date knowledge. There is a lack of awareness for expert system. It is a time taken procedure. It is impossible to interpret.
Advantages of Expert Systems
Expert system saves time and human efforts. It helps in maintaining data. It removes headache from user. It produces faster result. There is no chance of error in result.
